Since running, I can tell you for sure…Windows is clearly the chosen platform for our students. Our stats are almost always 10 to 1 in favor of Windows. That said, we often get asked, “How do I run QuickBooks on a Mac?”

There are several ways to run QuickBooks on a Mac. But what our students usually mean is “How do I run QuickBooks for Windows on a Mac?” While there is a Mac version of QuickBooks that’s pretty robust now, you CAN run any version of QuickBooks on a Mac. Here’s how…

For less than $100, you can load a product called Parallels on your Mac and then install Windows. Yep, Windows on a Mac. I have Windows 8.1 running on my Macbook Pro. I am currently running a beta version of OS X Yosemite and the latest Parallels with Windows 8.1. I have QuickBooks installed on my Mac and on Windows. It works just like Windows or you can actually run it as an app on your Mac without booting the Windows desktop. It’s your choice. It works perfectly, just like on a PC.

So, if you want to be a Mac user, and you should IMHO, don’t let QuickBooks or Quicken keep you from making the switch.

  1. I don’t use Parallels on my Mac. Instead, I run QuickBooks in my hosted environment with RightNetworks. I use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app to log in. Works Great!
