Today is a great day. I get to do something I’ve often wished to do. It’s called putting my money where my mouth is and maybe eating my own dog food too!
If you know me, I’m not shy. I speak my mind and speak it loud. Today, I share a story of friendship, trust and ability. This story is about business, life, friendship, fun and just cool stuff.
I met Jay Kimelman, the digital CPA on ABBO, our amazing Facebook Group aka Accountants, Bookkeepers and Business Owners. I jokingly mentioned him in a comment that his name included all the late night talent stars all in one. You got Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Dave Letterman all smashed together in one single name. Little did I know my snarky comment would lead to a true friendship, colleague, client, and now. Jay and I have built a strong relationship. We help one another do better and that is a great thing.
Today, I’m beyond proud to announce that SOB LLC (astUtemy) and 74 Degrees LLC (74 Systems) has hired the digital CPA as our accounting firm. Jay, welcome to our team!
But it wasn’t all unicorns and glitter, let me tell you. We had to scramble last minute to file our personal returns as we had a “sudden” falling out with our prior CPA. But Jay didn’t miss a beat. With only a few days to go, including the weekend, he did it and he did it really well. The entire process was so comforting and so refreshing and so, well, what I expected.
Now, don’t get me wrong, Jay and I are both highly savvy technology geeks, and we know each other well. We know our strengths and our weaknesses, and working together is proving already to be a great choice. Not only is Jay and his team a joy to work with, they have tremendous ability and solid ethical standing. Jay doesn’t cheat and Jay doesn’t screw around and Jay doesn’t miss a thing. He’s asked me more about my business in 48 hours than all of my accountants over the past 30 years combined. Finally!
Soon after Jay and I met, he became a large client of our Ignite Program. He and I worked together often and it wasn’t always pretty. We discussed, implemented and executed and often, we didn’t see the light. But we persevered and then, boom, everything we hoped to achieve came to light over the course of the next couple of months. It took over a year, but it happened. Today, the digital CPA is becoming a brand known throughout the industry. Jay’s talent, vision on his brand, his relentless and tenacious efforts towards building that brand, and decency, are now paying off for him, his firm and his family. Not a bad win for our team either. 🙂
My companies are also doing wonderful things these days and I’m happy to say that needing someone of Jay’s caliber is pretty neat, as it means we are achieving our goals. But, beyond that, having Jay and company on our team provides us with a new arsenal of tools and ability, so that we can grow even faster, become even better, and live a happier and fuller life. It’s nothing more than what we teach in the Ignite Program. We often refer to this as the “eating of your own dog food.” Well, look at us, gobbling it down, and I couldn’t be happier about the relationship.
I look forward to the future as we develop this relationship, and through thick and thin, I hope to remain connected in both work and friendship, with the man they call “the digital CPA.”
